Guthrie senior John Cotton has left his mark in Guthrie baseball history and he left another mark in Thursday’s night Oklahoma City Area Baseball Coaches Association All-City game at Dolese Park.
Cotton gave his North teammates a 2-run shot over the wall that helped aid his team to a 14-10 win over the South. Edmond Santa Fe’s Jordan Lopez added a 3-run homer. Cotton finished the game 2-for-3, scored three runs, drew a base on ball, and pitched the eighth inning.
Fellow Guthrie teammate, Jaden Chappell, drew a walk and scored a run for the winning team.
Cotton finished his BlueJay career with 37 homers when he added 14 round trippers this season and 12 last season to complete three seasons in a row with double-digit homers. No other BlueJay has more homers in a career then the right hander.
Chappell, who will be a part of the Cowley County baseball team next season, capped his BlueJay career with 30 dingers, including 9 this season, eight his junior year, seven his sophomore season, and six as a freshmen.
Both Cotton and Chappell, who were named to the First Team All Conference in the Suburban Conference, will play the Tulsa All Stars, Saturday, at Jenks.
