Dad, mom perish in three-vehicle accident; children survive

Tragedy struck a Hennessey family following a three vehicle accident just outside of Crescent Thursday afternoon. The collision killed two and sent several others to the hospital.

Fatality AccidentMelissa Haworth, 30, and Eric Haworth, 31, both of Hennessey were killed after a two-vehicle accident sent one of those vehicles into their lane on Highway 74 just before 4:30 p.m.

The collision occurred approximately five miles north of Crescent on the rainy, two-lane highway.

Their two children in the vehicle, Kyler Haworth, 4, and Kenlya Haworth, 2, were both taken to OU Medical Center. They are both listed in good condition with head injuries.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2002 Peterbult tractor-trailer was traveling northbound with the Haworth’s vehicle. A third vehicle, a 2011 F-550 was traveling southbound. For some unknown reason the tractor-trailer and F-550 collided causing the tractor-trailer to depart the highway. However, the F-550 continued traveling south, crossed the double line into the northbound lane and striking the Haworth’s vehicle head-on.

Thomas Crain, 34, of Lamont, Okla. was the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured. His passenger, Rebecca Crain, 11, was also not injured.

The driver of the F-550, Owen Bierig, 31, of Billings, Ok was transported to Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City and admitted in good condition with arm and leg injuries. His passenger, Jeremy Smith, 21, of Garber was also transported and listed in critical condition with head, arm, leg and internal and external injuries.

The OHP report shows all passengers were equipped with seat belts and child restraints.
