Devereaux, Whitaker named GPS employees of the month

Guthrie Public Schools named April Devereaux and Teara Whitaker as their employees of the month for December.

Devereaux, the school district’s nurse, was named the Certified Employee of the Month and Whitaker, Guthrie High School’s cafeteria manager, was selected as the Support Staff Employee of the Month.

“I know school nurses never realized with this year would look like. No one did,” Susan Birdwell said in her nomination letter.

“April (pictured right in the above photo) has been doing a great job with all of the contract tracing and other duties due to COVID,” Birdwell said. “I firmly believe that due to her diligence in keeping up with this it has helped to keep GPS at our minimum for this.”

Birdwell spoke of Devereaux’s compassion during her husband’s illness.

“I am sure she contacts many people each day and shows that same compassion.”

Grace Draper, who nominated Whitaker, says she appreciates her heart for kids at the high school.

“Daily, I watch her juggle all the tasks a cafeteria manager has with skills, and kindness as she helped her staff, the teachers and the students,” Draper said.

She continued, “It was so clear to me how much her staff, the faculty, and students appreciate her efforts to give a little something extra every day.”

The Guthrie Lions Club presented a plaque to the recipients and Sonic at I-35 and Highway 33 donated a $25 Sonic gift card.
