Department of Public Safety officials report 43 traffic-related fatalities in April 2015 compared to 56 in the same month last year.
During the month of April there were seven motorcyclists and four pedestrians who died in crashes. The highest daily fatality numbers include 11 deaths on Saturdays dropping to eight on Fridays. There were ten days in the month of April with no reported fatalities.
Four of the fatality crashes were alcohol-related. Thirty-seven of the fatality victims were Oklahoma residents and six non- resident. There were 32 male and ten female victims with one unknown gender. Eight of the fatality victims were under the age of 20. The 31- to 40-year-old and the 41-to 50-year-old lead the age group led the fatality count with eight.
Oklahoma County led the state with a total of ten fatalities, followed by Payne County with five fatalities. The highest number of fatalities occurred on City Streets with 17. There were 10 fatalities on State Highways.
Forty-five percent of those who died in traffic collisions were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
