Preliminary information from the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety shows 67 traffic-related fatalities in August 2016, compared to 52 confirmed fatalities in the same month last year.
Some 58 of the fatality victims were Oklahoma residents.
The number of fatalities on each type of roadway: state highway, 17; county road, 16; U.S. highway, 14; city street, 12; interstate highway, seven; turnpike, one.
Some 34 of the fatality victims were drivers; 13 were pedestrians; 10 were passengers; nine were motorcycle operators; one was a bicyclist.
The daily fatality numbers include 13 deaths on Sundays; four on Mondays; 11 on Tuesdays; nine on Wednesdays; six on Thursdays; seven on Fridays; 17 on Saturdays. There were four days in the month of August with no reported fatalities.
According to police reports, 10 fatalities were alcohol-related.
There were 23 female victims and 44 male victims.
Seven of the victims were age 20 or younger. The 51- to 55-year-old age group had the most fatalities with 10, followed by the 21- to 25-year-old age group with nine.
Tulsa County led the state with a total of eight fatalities, followed by Oklahoma County with seven.
Some 51.2 percent of those who died in traffic collisions were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
