Guthrie sophomore Bryan Dutton picked up his fourth tournament (out of five) win of the season in the Chickasha Tournament this past weekend.
The BlueJays, who are ranked seventh this week by the coaches, landed five in the finals, but could managed just fourth place overall. Class 4A’s top ranked Tuttle team captured the title and was followed by 3A’s second ranked Berryhill, and 5A’s fourth ranked Deer Creek.
Dutton’s only defeat this season came in the finals of the Duncan Tournament this season and is looking to improve on his third place state showing from a season ago.
Ryan Kitch, Devin Bilyeu, Landry Chappell, and John Davison each made the final match of their weight class, but came up short.
Next on the schedule is the Conference Duals, in Shawnee, on Tuesday, but may be canceled due to the expected winter weather storm. Stay tuned to Guthrie Sports Page for any announcements.
Chickasha Tournament results:
Did Chappell get beat by the kid from DC again? Is there any way to find out more in depth material on the final matches?
Yes Chappell was defeated by Alex Christensen, but I am not aware of the score, or how it played out. Christensen has won the Cushing, Carl Albert, and now Chickasha Tournament with final match wins over Chappell to take the series lead 4-2 overall and 3-1 this season.
