Back-to-back nights equals two wins

 

After 11 days off, the Guthrie wrestling squad returned back to the mat on back-to-back nights and in the process picked up two dual wins.

The winter storm on January 20th postponed the dual match with Western Heights pushing the dual back. Guthrie received three forfeits and took advantage with four falls to help secure a 50-24 win.

The following night (Thursday) the Jays traveled to Class 4A’s 11th ranked Piedmont and piled on five pins en route to a 49-16 win. The Jays are now 5-1 in dual action and are currently ranked seventh in Class 5A.

In the two duals, eight Jays were a perfect 2-0, including Timothy O’Connor (112) and Bryan Dutton (145) picking up two pins each. Ryan Kitch (135) collected a tech fall and major decision, Shane Cantrell (140) got a fall and decision, Devin Bilyeu (152) received a forfeit and picked up a decision, Dennis Murphy (160) and Landry Chappell (215) each received a forfeit and picked up pins, while John Davison (285) won by decision and pin.

Next up for the Jays is the Chickasha Tournament today and Saturday. After the tournament concludes on Saturday it will mark four stragiht days of wrestling for the BlueJays.
