Election not needed for Guthrie BOE; president did not seek re-election

Guthrie Public Schools will not hold an election this year for school board members following last week’s filing period.

Current Board of Education (BOE) President Jennifer Bennett-Johnson did not seek a third term. Bennett-Johnson, who resides in Ward 4, won the school seat in 2014 and 2017.

Matt Girard was the only candidate to fill out a declaration of candidacy for Ward 4 and will take Bennett-Johnson’s position at the April 11 school board meeting.

Long-time board member Janna Pierson (Ward 3) did not draw an opponent and was elected to another four-year term.

Ward 6 member Gail Davis filed to serve out the remainder of her current term (2025). She did not draw an opponent and will remain on the board.

Last June, Davis was appointed by the BOE and replaced her sister-in-law Gina Davis, who resigned to allow her son to have employment in the school district.

In 2013,Gail Davis was elected to the school board after running unopposed.
