An early morning Oklahoma City apartment fire Sunday morning claimed the lives of four family members, including three children, from Guthrie.
“Our hearts go out to the families that lost children in this tragedy. This is truly a sad day in Guthrie,” Guthrie Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson said in a release on Sunday evening.
A three-alarm fire was reported just before 3 a.m. at Quail Ridge Apartments, located near May Avenue and Memorial Road.
Unable to escape the building were three cousins and their aunt.
Carson Nyte, 12, Bentley Evans, 7, and Paisley Evans, 4, were all staying the evening with their aunt, Melissa Evans, 34, as all of her nieces and nephews have always done.
Melissa’s boyfriend was able to escape while suffering second degree burns and injuries after jumping from a second floor balcony.
Funeral services for all four victims are pending with Hayes Funeral Home.
A gofundme page has been setup for the family.
The Evans/Nyte memorial fund has been setup at BancFirst in Guthrie.
A community car wash has been planned for Sunday, February 3 from 1 – 6 p.m. at Guthrie High School.
“It’s time for this community to show out and step up to raise some funding for this wonderful family,” family friend Jason Reece said who is helping with the fundraiser.
“This money will only go so far, but this family needs to know that they are not alone and we support and love them dearly.”
