The Logan County Fire Chief’s Association met Monday evening for their monthly meeting with a buffet dinner.
Joining the county fire chiefs at the Boneyard Grill were State Senator (District 20) AJ Griffin, State Representative (District 31) Jason Murphey and State Representative (District 33) Lee Denney.
Senator Griffin thanked the group for their efforts fighting the fires this past summer while Rep. Denney thanked them for not only fighting the fires, but saving several homes from going up in flames. Rep. Murphey also pointed out how much he appreciates all the volunteer fire departments, who represents one of the fastest growing counties in the state.
Logan County Emergency Director David Ball spoke on behalf all the fire departments in hopes of future legislation taking a closer look at the burn ban requirements.
Ball stressed that the Logan County Commissioners, who are responsible of enacting burn bans, but must meet state requirements, would like for county officials (commissioners and fire chiefs) have more of a say on enacting the ban.
Currently, the state requires four criteria’s to be met and the county meeting just three of the four despite chiefs, commissioners and citizens wanting the burn ban to be put into place.
The next meeting is scheduled next month in Coyle.
