Former Langston Assistant Fire Chief charged with assault and battery

A former Langston assistant fire chief has been charged with assault and battery following an alleged incident involving a female firefighter, according to the Logan County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors have filed a misdemeanor charge against 56-year-old Brian Allyn Orndorff, who formerly served as assistant fire chief with the Langston Fire Department.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, the alleged assault and battery involved a female Langston firefighter and occurred while Orndorff was serving with the fire department.

Online court records indicate the alleged incident occurred on July 17. A $2,500 bond was set in the case.

Under Oklahoma law, the misdemeanor assault and battery charge carries a potential punishment of up to six months in the county jail, a fine of up to $1,000, or both.

Logan County District Attorney Jeremiah Gregory issued a statement following the filing of the charge, emphasizing that public officials are subject to the same laws as everyone else.

“All public officials, including myself, are subject to the exact same laws as everyone else,” Gregory said. “In fact, public officials, by virtue of their office, hold a special duty to the public they serve and the people they supervise.”

Gregory continued by saying his office would not provide favorable treatment to public officials accused of committing crimes.

“Public officials who commit criminal offenses in this jurisdiction can expect no favors – those in positions of public trust who commit criminal acts will be treated the same as any other offender,” Gregory said. “I will never tolerate public officials who violate the public trust, especially if they physically hurt other people. They will be prosecuted to the fullest extent the law provides.”

The District Attorney’s Office did not provide additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident in its announcement.

The criminal charge is an accusation and not a finding of guilt. Orndorff is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
