Former Logan County deputy sentenced to one year in jail

A former Logan County Sheriff’s deputy, Christopher Andrews, was sentenced to one year in jail on Wednesday after pleading guilty to engaging in sexual communication with a minor earlier this year.

Following the sentencing, Andrews was taken into custody handcuffed, and escorted to the Logan County jail. Andrews is expected to be moved to another county jail to serve his time.

Andrews appeared before Associate Judge Louis Duel, who delivered the sentence after hearing testimony from three witnesses, including an investigator. In addition to the jail time, Andrews was given a 10-year sentence with all suspended except one year in jail (upon good behavior), ordered to pay all court costs, and required to register as a sex offender.

The charges stem from an incident reported in January 2022, when Guthrie News Page announced that an arrest warrant had been issued for Andrews. At the time, he was accused of exchanging text messages with a 17-year-old, discussing explicit sexual acts between June and September 2021.

Andrews began his law enforcement career as a jail employee before becoming a deputy. In September and October 2021, he worked briefly as a temporary school resource officer at Guthrie High School. On December 3, 2021, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) suspended and terminated Andrews following an internal investigation into his inappropriate relationship with the student. The case was referred to the Guthrie Police Department and LCSO after a community member alerted a Guthrie Public Schools administrator about the situation.

During his time at the school, Andrews worked nine days on contract and provided security at two high school football games.
