Former School Resource Officer enters blind plea of guilty to engaging in sexual communication with minor

Former school resource officer Christopher Andrews entered a blind plea of guilty to engaging in sexual communication with a minor using technology.

The plea took place in the Logan County Courthouse on June 26, where a judge ordered a pre-sentence investigation and scheduled sentencing for September 4, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.

Andrews remains on his current $30,000 bond until then.

In a blind plea, a defendant pleads guilty or no contest without the benefit of a plea agreement. This means the judge has complete discretion over the sentencing.

The charge dates to January 2022 when Guthrie News Page reported that an arrest warrant had been issued for Andrews, who at the time was a Logan County Sheriff’s deputy. The warrant was for engaging in communication for sexual or prurient interest via text messages with a 17-year-old.

The affidavit revealed that Andrews had explicitly discussed potential sexual acts with the minor, with the messages occurring between June and September 2021.

Andrews, 36, could face up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.

Andrews’ employment history includes starting as a jail employee before becoming a deputy. Following an internal investigation by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) on December 3, 2021, he was suspended and subsequently terminated. At the time of his termination, Andrews had been serving as a temporary school resource officer at Guthrie High School.

The incident came to light on December 3, 2021, when a Guthrie Public Schools administrator received a report from a community member about Andrews’ improper relationship with a high school student.

The matter was immediately referred to the Guthrie Police Department and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, and Andrews was removed from any future assignments in the school district.

Andrews had worked on a contract basis during the day at the high school, serving a total of nine days in September and October, and provided off-duty security for two high school home football games.
