GHS principal, students sing BC Clark jingle on NBC Nightly News

Guthrie High School Principal Chris LeGrande, teachers and students were at the right place at the right time to land themselves on national television.

The group from Guthrie took a field trip to the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City to take in some Oklahoma history. Turns out, NBC Nightly News was doing the same thing.

“I received an email from the director of the museum a few weeks earlier stating NBC News would be on location. I did not think much of it,” LeGrande said. “However, the day we showed up we were met by the director, who introduced me to the NBC producer.”

The show was in town covering the 60 year anniversary of the BC Clark jingle. You know, “jewelry is the gift to give ’cause it’s the gift that’ll live and live” …. anyways the news feature was called ‘The Oklahoma Christmas jingle that lets you know the holidays are here.’

“It’s one of those that can drive you nuts, but it gets you in the Christmas season,” LeGrande said during the 2:06 feature. LeGrande was followed up by country music star Blake Shelton belting out more of the lyrics.

The Guthrie group had their chance to sing the catchy tune with “so give the gift you know can’t fail from BC Clark” making the national air waves while standing in front of the BC Clark display.

The jingle was first written and produced in 1961.
