GHS students bring top honors back from Nashville

Guthrie High School was well represented recently in Nashville at the National Leadership Conference. Several Family, Careers and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students were recognized with top honors in a week of leadership and character development.

“(The students) represented Oklahoma and the Bluejays perfectly,” GHS FCCLA Advisor Jody Webber said.

“I could not imagine a better behaved, more respectful group of students! Our Bluejay FCCLA members were incredible. I am so proud of them.”

Lauren Toney, Elizabeth Shafer, & Hope Watkins won a gold medal in Chapter Service Project Manuel. Necole Rose and Brittany Canales also won a gold medal in the Advocacy contest.

Taking the silver medal in Recycle and Redesign was Sarah Datin. Not to be outdone, Abby Maker, Tori Slawson and Megan Bishop each won a silver medal in Digital Stories for Change.

In non-competitive events, Samantha Adair and Mary Loveless taught all advisors and members visiting the exhibits how to start a Bluejay Reading Village program  in their school districts.

Brooke Black and Hayley Taylor represented the southern region as Social Media Specialists sharing their thoughts on the convention happenings on various social media outlets.

Maci Hirzel was a room consultant in two different events, helping to run those events.

“This was an incredible week and Oklahoma was represented beautifully,” Webber concluded with.
