Guthrie Girl Scout Troop 516 will be hosting an event called, Pet Palooza, on Saturday, July 27 at Mineral Wells Park in Guthrie for their Girl Scout Bronze and Silver Award Project.

TroopThe event will begin at 10 a.m. with a Pet Adoption Fair. The Troop has partnered with the Guthrie Animal Shelter, who will have their adoptable pets at the park that morning until noon. The public is welcome to come and look and hopefully adopt these pets. The Guthrie Animal Shelter charges a $25 fee.

Then, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., local veterinarians and pet groomers will be at the park with informational booths on how to properly care for pets, such as advice on how to care for their new cat from websites like catbeep. The final event of the Pet Palooza will be a Pet Show which begins at 2 p.m. The public may enter their cats or dogs in one or more of four categories for the pet show, Cutest, Most Talented, Best Dressed and Best Groomed. Prizes for first, second and third place will be awarded in each category for cats and in each category for dogs. An overall Grand Champ Dog and Cat will also be chosen from among the winners.

“From the very beginning of our Troop, we have had a heart for animals,” Troop President Breena Lijewski said.

“Each year since 2008 we have used a portion of our cookie proceeds to donate kitty litter to the Guthrie Animal Shelter and one year we helped the shelter by repainting the paw prints on the road to the shelter.”

Pet Show Entry Forms are available here at Guthrie News Page (Pet Show Entry Form), Guthrie Pet Hospital, Cross Town Veterinary Services, Southpointe Veterinary Clinic, Veterinarian Corner, and the Guthrie Animal Shelter. A form can also be downloaded from their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/PetPaloozaGuthrie. Entries will be accepted until noon on the day of the event.

Local Boy Scout Troop 850 will be at the park all day selling hot dogs, Guthrie Rainbow Assembly #22 will also be there all day selling snow cones, and Girl Scout Troop 516 will be selling water and pop. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Guthrie Animal Shelter and donations, including donations of kitty litter, cat food and dog food will be accepted for the Shelter as well.
