The Guthrie fifth and sixth grade football teams made it to the final day of the 2012 season. Despite not winning their final game, coordinators and coaches have been pleased with their teams on and off the field.
Guthrie schools from the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade teams competed in the competitive little league association with teams spread throughout the metro.
“I just want to say how proud I am of each coach, each player, each parent, board member, volunteer, employee of Central Oklahoma Little League football,” Guthrie coordinator Seth Robbins said.
One of the exciting portions of the season was for some of the local teams to play inside The Rock in the last week of the season just like the big BlueJays do on Friday nights. To cap it off, some teams got to run through the Guthrie blown up football helmet balloon.
“I was told by several coordinators that our group was one of the classiest they’ve dealt with and I am so excited for 2013,” Robbins said.
In the final game of the year for the fifth grade team, quarterback Cale Coffman scored three times, including a 45-yard touchdown when he stripped a Jones Longhorn of the ball for the score, en route to a 34-10 semifinal win inside Jelsma Stadium.
Other game highlights included a touchdown run by JD Coonfield and later Coonfield found Bo Robbins on a half back pass that inside the 5-yard line. Robbins added one more catch of 35 yards to lead the Jays in receiving.
