Grass fire breaks out; needed rain falls hours later

Guthrie fire crews were joined by the Crescent and Deer Creek fire departments as they battled a grass fire just east of Cedar Valley Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly before 3:00, crews responded a mile and a half south on Santa Fe Road from Highway 33, where they found a controlled burn that got out of its boundaries.

The control burn was for debris and brush that resulted from the May 24th tornado. The winds aided the fire to expand and eventually spread out over two to three acres of land according to Guthrie Fire Chief Eric Harlow.

A few hours later, around 7:00 pm, much-needed rain came fallen from the Oklahoma skies dropping 1.28 inches of precipitation to push the last 30-day total to 1.29 inches.
