The top-ranked Guthrie BlueJays will play their next three of four games on the road to end the regular season, including a trip to Memorial Stadium on Friday night in El Reno.

The BlueJays will enter with a 6-0 overall record and 3-0 district mark. Meanwhile, El Reno snapped a four  game losing skid last week with a 23-7 win over Northwest Classen to improve to 2-4 and 1-2.

The week seven match-up will be the third time in four weeks that El Reno has played a top five team according to the 5A rankings. In week four McGuinness dropped the Indians (52-0) and the following week went down to Deer Creek (46-6).

Guthrie will enter as heavy favorites on the road, but El Reno has not been a place where fellow BlueJay teams have played well despite having a 10-1 record in the last 11 meetings, including a 6-0 record in El Reno with three shut-outs.

Even with multi-touchdown wins, the Guthrie coaching staff has focused on keeping the team mentally ready to come out and play from the start. Something the Jays have done well this year.

In the first six wins, Guthrie has put up 225 points in the first half alone, including 113 in the first quarter and 112 in the second quarter to average 37.5 point average. Equally as impressive, the team has allowed only 32 points to be put on the score board all season in the first halves. Enid put up 18 points in the first quarter and Carl Albert supplied 14 points in the second quarter.

El Reno started the year with a 30-7 win in Woodward before dropping four straight to Chickasha, Noble, McGuinness and Deer Creek.

The Indians show 32 players on their roster and have need to played several players on both sides of the ball.

In the two wins this season, there has been one key ingredient. Sophomore quarterback Cal Baker. The 5’9 160 pounder led his team to both wins and is expected to start against the BlueJays.

The quarterbacks main threat to catch the ball is 6’1, 170 pound Justin Brown, who in the first four games collected two touchdown receptions.

The El Reno offense averages 14 points per game while giving up an average 26 points.
