It was a familiar track at Edmond North last Saturday when the Guthrie Track program competed in the 2010 regional.
The Guthrie boys, who won their first ever school title a season ago, won the regional with 196 team points. Following them were Duncan (147), Altus (91), and Deer Creek (52).
Junior Emmanuel Robinson, a returning state champion, edged out teammate Chaunsey Dumas by .03 with a run of 10.77 in the 100 meter sprint. Jays senior Dustin Bohanan will join Robinson and Dumas in the state 100 meter race.
Robinson then smoked the regional field with a 14.36 in the 110 and a 40.07 in 300 meter hurdles.
Bohanan finished second in the 200 meter run and Dumas qualifed for the state tournament run with a fourth place finish in the 200 meters.
Dumas also finised second in the 400 meter run to qualify for state.
In the 800 run, Guthrie finished 3, 4 , and 5. Zac Cates and Colin Betchan qualifed for state as Jared Ogan, who just signed with Oklahoma Baptist University, just came up short for the state run.
However, Ogan did qualify for the 1600 meter state run with a third place run in the 1600 meter. Twin brother, Jason Ogan, qualified as well with a second place run.
The youngest Ogan runner, sophomore Jonathan Ogan, qualifed for state in the 3200 meter run with a second place finish. Jason Ogan was third and Hunter Sallee was fourth. All three will run at the state meet in the 3200.
To no surprise, the Guthrie 4 x 100 relay team, who is the favorite at state, took top honors with a 41.89 time. The team of Robinson, Dumas, Bohanan, and Alphonso Wilcots earlier this season set a school record with a time of 41.77. The regional run is the second fastest time in school history.
The 4 x 400 relay team of Bohanan, Colin Betchan, Alex Dorio, and Walker Cross finished fourth overall and was 13 seconds behind Northwest Classen.
The 4 x 800 Guthrie relay team of Jason Ogan, Jared Ogan, Betchan and Cates easily won their race by 19 seconds over Duncan to qualify for state.
In the field events, senior Kolt Rinehart leaped an 11-06 in the pole vault to come away with the win over Duncan’s Dillion Mettler. Guthrie’s Steven Bisig also qualifed for state with a jump of 10-06.
Chelsey Dumas, twin brother of Chauncey, had a toss of 44-00.50 in the shot put and just behind him was Zac Brown’s throw of 41-08. Brown turned around and threw the discus 129-04 and was good enough for second place.
