Guthrie and Carl Albert have become must see TV.
The two 5A football powers have put on some epic battles over the year’s and the television camera’s have been their to capture it all. 2011 will not be any different.
Cox Communications has picked up the week seven game on October 14th inside Jelsma Stadium. The game has become an annual showdown that generally determines the district champion.
Carl Albert leads the series 22-17 that dates back to 1968. Head Coach Rafe Watkins and his Jays are 6-4 against the Titans, including last year’s 32-14 win in Midwest City. The Titans have won three of the last five meetings and the last game played inside Jelsma Stadium in 2009.
Between the Jays and Titans they have combined to win seven of the last 11 state championships in Class 5A. The Titans claim five of those golden balls.
Guthrie is 8-3 when playing on television.
The two programs have had some epic games over the last several years, including Russell Rush’s game winning field goals in 2001 and 2002. Many remember the 2007 BlueJay “dream team” winning their first district title under Watkins in Midwest City.
All Guthrie Football games can be heard on Triple Play Sports Radio 105.1 FM and streamed live world-wide on Guthrie Sports Page. The upcoming season will be the 10th straight season to air the Jays on the radio.
