Guthrie – Carl Albert made for TV

Bookmark and Share

To nobody’s surprise the Guthrie and Carl Albert football game that is set for Week 7, October 15th, will be televised in Midwest City.

Cox Communications has picked up the game and will be called with play-by-play announcer Mike Wolfe, color commentary Steve Marshall, and side-line reporter Rod Thompson.

The following week Guthrie will once again be in the spotlight when KSBI-TV broadcasts the Guthrie/El Reno game on the Jays Senior Night. Chris Johnson and Bob Cortese will be in the booth for the call.

Carl Albert leads the series 22-16 that dates back to 1968. Head Coach Rafe Watkins and his Jays are 5-4 against the Titans, but have lost three of the last four meetings, including last years lopsided game inside Jelsma Stadium.

Between the Jays and Titans they have combined to win seven of the last 10 state championships in Class 5A. The Titans claim five of those golden balls.

Guthrie is 7-3 when playing on television.

The two programs have had some epic games over the last several years, including Russell Rush’s game winning field goals in 2001 and 2002. Many remember the 2007 BlueJay “dream team” winning their only district title under Watkins in Midwest City.

All Guthrie Football games can be heard on Triple Play Sports Radio 105.1 FM and streamed live world-wide on Guthrie Sports Page. This is the ninth straight season to air the Jays on the radio.
