The Guthrie High School stand-out has been named as The Oklahoman’s 2010 All-State Defensive Player of the Year. The senior has brought in numerous high-end honors this season, including being named to the OCA All-State team, OkBlitz.com Player of the Year, Tulsa World All-State team, Big All City Defensive Player of the Year, and NUC Athlete of the Year.

Brothers, who perhaps is the best two-way player in GHS history, joins Kye Staley as the only Jays to earn the award presented by the state’s largest newspaper. Staley was the 2007 Offensive Player of the Year while head coach Rafe Watkins was named Coach of the Year in 2002.

The Missouri commit had 63 catches and 1,304 yards (both school records) and 18 TDs to help the BlueJays (11-2) reach the 5A semifinals for second straight year. On defense, he had 100 tackles and finished his career with 160 catches, 3,029 receiving yards, 40 TDs, 285 tackles and 51 sacks.

Outside the numbers, Brothers was dominant and made opposing offense’s and defense’s work around his ability to make plays during his 3-year career. Brothers is also a stand-out off the field and in the classroom.

Brothers, who played in the  inaugural National Under Classmen’s All-World Gridiron Classic, beat out Mustang’s David Glidden, Millwood’s Brandon Swindall, Heritage Hall’s Sterling Shepard, and Douglass’ Aliston Cobb for the latest honor.
