The Guthrie BlueJays needed the first half to secure a perfect season, but needed 45 minutes after the game to find out whom they will be hosting in the first round of next week’s playoffs.

The Jays (10-0) got three touchdowns from junior Idae Alexander and two scores each from senior Kai Callins and L’liott Curry to secure a 45-0 halftime lead and would eventually prevailed with a 45-8 win over Northwest Classen (3-7) on Senior Night.

Alexander led the offensive charge with 130 rushing yards on 17 carries to go with the three scores of 8, 2 and 7 yards. Quarterback Reed Roberts need to throw just six passes and completed five of those for 61 yards.

Not to be outdone, the Guthrie defense held their fourth opponent to negative yards rushing. Northwest finished with negative 45 rushing to go with 109 yards passing. In the regular season, the defense allowed a ridiculous 206 yards total on the ground. In total, the team gave up 80 points total.
For the third time in school history, Guthrie finishes the regular season unbeaten at 10-0. The other two seasons came in 2007 and 2011, in which, the Jays went on to win state titles.
In addition, Guthrie extends their home winning streak to a school record 26 games and under Rafe Watkins are 13-0 in senior night games.
The BlueJays learned 45 minutes after their game that Chickasha had defeated Duncan by six points – which was the exact number needed to clinch the final playoff spot in 5A-1. Chickasha’s senior running back Josh Latham scored all three Chickasha touchdowns.
Guthrie and Chickasha (5-5) have met twice in the past 12 years and both coming in the playoffs. The Jays won the 2006 first round game in Guthrie (48-7) and in the 2002 state semi-finals (23-20) in Norman. Playoff Bracket
Both teams have agreed to a 7 p.m. kickoff, but will need final approval from the OSSAA. The winner will move on and play the winner between Shawnee and Claremore.
