Guthrie golf teams headed to State

The Guthrie High School golf teams will play their final tournament of the season at the State tournament.

The Lady Jays travel to Kingston, Oklahoma to take on the 12-team field at Chickashaw Pointe Golf Club on Wednesday. They secured their spot with an eight-place finish at regionals which was held at Lake Hefner.

For the boys, a third-place finish at Claremore’s Heritage Hills Golf Club secured their spot for Monday and Tuesday’s tournament at Duncan Golf and Tennis Club.

With multiple delays due to lightning, teams were only allowed to play 18 holes instead of 36.

Bishop Kelley walked away as regional champs with a low score of 318 and was followed by Piedmont (332) and Guthrie (342).

The girls are led by head coach Jason Rice and the boys with head coach Ric Meshew, who plans to retire at the end of the school year.
