The Guthrie junior high varsity volleyball team made history Monday, capturing the 2026 Class 5A Junior High Conference championship on its home court.
The championship marked a memorable evening as Guthrie hosted the conference tournament for the first time, claimed its first conference title, and defeated longtime rivals along the way.
Guthrie opened the tournament against Del City. The Bluejays won the opening set, dropped the second and responded by winning the decisive third set.
The Bluejays then faced Noble and again played a three-set match. Guthrie lost the opening set, answered with a victory in the second and fell in the deciding third set.
The tournament format gave Guthrie another opportunity against Del City in a tiebreaker match. The Bluejays won the tiebreaker to advance to the championship.
Guthrie met Carl Albert with the conference title on the line. The Bluejays captured the first set before the Titans forced a deciding third set. Guthrie responded by winning the final set to secure the championship and complete the historic evening.
The title marked an important milestone for the growing volleyball program and provided a fitting finish for a group of athletes who worked throughout the season to reach the moment.
Coaches Aushleana Boykin and Jessica Rash were recognized for their leadership and the work they put into preparing the team.
The program also thanked its athletic trainers, program coaches, supporters, donors, parents, families, fans, schools, and booster members for their continued support.
The conference championship adds a new chapter to Guthrie volleyball history and gives the program another accomplishment upon which to build.
