The Guthrie Noon Lions club is sponsoring two high school juniors, one male and one female, to attend the Oklahoma Boys State and Girls State leadership programs. The program is sponsored in every state by the American Legion.
Jerry Ball, the coordinator for Guthrie’s American Legion Post 58, notes that the two programs provide a great opportunity for young men and women to learn more about governments; from the city, county and state perspective.
Lions Club President Steve Gentling stated, “We are so pleased to be able to support these two students and to offer them the great opportunity to participate in a leadership environment that is focused on learning about governments and how they operate at the local and state levels. Sara and Dane will represent our community extremely well at this developmental opportunity and we are sure, will continue to represent our community well in their life’s journey.”
The week long programs; boys at North Eastern Oklahoma College in Miami, Oklahoma and girls at Norman on the OU campus, provide an outstanding foundation for our country’s future leaders. Relationships are developed during this intense week that will last a lifetime.
The Guthrie Lions Club is sponsoring Dane Jenkins and Sara Womack. Dane, son of Lori and Bryan Jenkins, has been on the Student Council for three years and is active in football and wrestling. He plans on continuing his educational pursuit in college with a focus on business.
Sara, daughter of Angela and David Womack, loves photography and horses. She is a manager for the track team and would love to go to OU in business with a goal of having her own horse training facility.
