Original Story

A Guthrie man was admitted into a metro hospital Saturday morning after his vehicle departed the highway and striking a tree.

Traffic 12202014Guthrie News Page first reported the single-vehicle accident just before 7:30 Saturday morning. The accident occurred on I-35 approximately a mile north of the south Guthrie exit near mile marker 154.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Christopher A. Colbert, 28, of Guthrie was travelling southbound when for some unknown reason departed the roadway to the left. The report goes on to say Colbert overcorrected and struck a tree.

Colbert, who was wearing a seat belt, was pinned for about an hour as members of the Guthrie Fire Department worked to get Colbert freed from the mangled 2006 Mazda 4D.

Eagle Med transferred Colbert to OU Medical Center and was admitted with head, arm, leg, internal and external injuries.

OHP says the cause of the collision is still under investigation.

The highway was shut down a few times to allow the medical helicopter to land and transport.
