Guthrie Police Department awarded overtime grant for traffic enforcement; Tips to avoid being pulled over

The Guthrie Police Department has been awarded a $33,341 grant from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office (OHSO) to enhance traffic enforcement efforts.

This significant funding will pay for personnel overtime, allowing the department to allocate more resources toward traffic enforcement shifts.

In addition to covering overtime pay, the grant includes provisions for attendance at the Lifesaver Conference, an event focused on improving roadway safety and reducing traffic fatalities.

Driving Safety Tips to Avoid Being Pulled Over

To ensure safe travels and reduce the likelihood of being pulled over by the police, consider the following driving safety tips:

  1. Obey Speed Limits: Always adhere to posted speed limits and adjust your speed according to road conditions.
  2. Use Seat Belts: Ensure that all passengers are wearing seat belts at all times.
  3. Avoid Distractions: Refrain from using your phone or engaging in other distracting activities while driving.
  4. Follow Traffic Signals: Always stop at red lights and stop signs, and yield to pedestrians and other vehicles when required.
  5. Keep a Safe Distance: Maintain a safe following distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you.
  6. Use Turn Signals: Signal your intentions well in advance when turning or changing lanes.
  7. Don’t Drink and Drive: Never operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  8. Check Your Vehicle: Ensure your vehicle is in good working condition, with functioning lights, brakes, and tires.

By adhering to these safety tips, drivers can contribute to a safer driving environment and reduce their chances of being pulled over for traffic violations.
