Guthrie Track caps season with relay championship at Class 5A State Meet

Guthrie High School’s track and field athletes delivered a memorable performance at the OSSAA Class 5A State Meet held Friday and Saturday at Western Heights High School, highlighted by a state championship in the girls’ 4×400 meter relay.

The quartet of Peyton Read, Haley Gallo, Madi Brooks, and Cora Leach brought home the gold in the final event of the meet, securing a state title with a thrilling performance on the track. The victory capped a successful weekend for the Lady Jays, who had several athletes earn podium and top-eight finishes.

The girls’ 4×200 meter relay team of Gallo, Leach, Jackie Howell, and Brooks claimed fourth place, while the 4×100 meter relay team featuring Gallo, Brooks, Howell, and Oliviah Bryan finished eighth.

Taylor Schroder added a pair of strong individual efforts with a fourth-place finish in the 3200 meters and a fifth-place showing in the 1600 meters.

Leach continued her impressive meet with a fifth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles. Ryn McCormick cleared enough to earn seventh place in the pole vault, and Mary Vaughan placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles.

On the boys’ side, Isaiah Blevins led the way with a pair of third-place finishes in the 1600 and 3200-meter runs, showing endurance and grit in both distance events.

Kade Barton also earned a third-place finish in the high jump, while Gavin Hood narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place performance in the pole vault. Amare Watson represented Guthrie in the sprints and came away with an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter dash.
