Guthrie wrestlers continue to make headlines this season even after the 2011 state tournament.

Bryan Dutton became one of two Guthrie wrestlers to win state since 1992.

This past Saturday (April 16th) three Guthrie wrestlers once again found success on the mats by participating in the USAOK wrestling Junior Freestyle and Greco Tournament held at Westmoore High School.

In the juniors category Michael Conner and Bryan Dutton competed and taking part in the Cadet portion of the tournament was Conner Howard. All three stand-outs competed this past season for the GHS program.

Michael Conner and Bryan Dutton will again be teammates, but this time for Team Oklahoma as both were ask to participate on the Team OK Greco National Dual Team slated to compete in June.

Dutton, along with Landry Chappell  became Guthrie’s first state championship wrestler since 1992, finished his sophomore season with a 34-1 record after posting a 35-5 record and a third place state finish in his freshmen campaign.

In addition, Dutton qualified for the Junior National team attending Asic/Accolade Junior Freestyle National Championships held in Fargo, North Dakota in late July.

Conner, who will sign with Oklahoma City University this week, was one of seven BlueJays to qualify for state and helped lead the Jays to a fourth place state finish. Conner racked up a 27-10 senior season.

While not a qualifying tournament for the Cadet age group, Howard did bring home a gold medal pinning 4A state qualifier Kaleb Phillips, from Vinita, in the first period of their finals match.

Howard was sidelined this past wrestling season with an injury and came on the scene for the Guthrie football program as a freshman.
