For the second straight week, the Guthrie Bluejays found themselves trailing early on, but only to rally and win by multiple scores.
Guthrie and Putnam City West squared off for the first time ever on the gridiron in Oklahoma City. The Jays drove away with a 43-20 win over the Class 6A-II Patriots.
Senior quarterback Josh Rains and sophomore running back Isiah Hammons combined for 250 yards on 40 carries to accumulate the bulk of the Jays offense.
Hammons, who ran for 124 yards, finished with three touchdown on with runs from 20, 4 and 35 yards out.
Rains tossed two touchdowns, including a 36-yard strike to senior Kaiden Ballard-Stevenson in the second quarter and a fourth quarter pass to senior Jaylen Allison.
Allison, who finished with three catches for 51 yards, provided another touchdown with a spectacular 70-yard kickoff return after PCW pulled within two scores late in the third quarter.
The Jays offense totaled 382 yards of offense, including 146 yards through the air.
PCW totaled 323 yards offensively with a majority of those coming on big plays for the Patriots, including 98 yards on scores alone.
Patriots led 6-0 after the first quarter before the Jays added three scores in the second quarter to take a 16-6 lead into halftime.
Hammons scored two touchdowns in the third to give his team a 36-14 lead going into the fourth quarter.
The Bluejays return to Jelsma Stadium as they host the Duncan Demons for Homecoming 2020.
