The Guthrie Lady Jays track program has been on the rise in the last few seasons with sixth and seventh 5A finishes at the state tournament, At the same time, Micayla Haynes has been on the rise too.
Haynes, who will be entering the 7th grade this fall, competed with the Guthrie Junior High this past season as a sixth grader and easily held her own. In fact, stood out.
She collected 25 gold medals and a bronze this past season and was undefeated in the long jump. On June 5th, at Norman High School, Haynes came away with gold in the long jump, 100 meter, and 200 meter dash.
Her recent success qualifies her to compete at the national qualifier in Tulsa (June 24-27th), but before that, she will compete at the Sooner State Games, June 19th, at Yukon High School.
