What a year makes for the Guthrie Lady Jays basketball team as they competed among with the elite throughout the season to finish with an 11-13 season record. Senior guard Melinda Murillo was a tremendous impact and recently was rewarded for her play.
Murillo was named to the Suburban Conference First Team All-Conference team in one of the toughest conferences in the state. This season, three teams from the conference advanced to the state tournament (Shawnee, Deer Creek and Carl Albert).
The senior, who earned second team all-conference honors a season ago, led the team in scoring for the second straight season when she helped lead her team to a 4-4 conference record.
Murillo’s back court teammate, freshmen Micayla Haynes, was selected to the Third Team All Conference team. Also, receiving recognition was sophomore Kamber Smedley and junior Cassidy Jones were named as Honorable Mention.
