J High girls take third; boys sixth in tennis tourney

Mustang Junior High held their tennis tournament at the OKC Tennis Center on Thursday and the Guthrie Lady Jays took third overall, while the BlueJays placed sixth.

Jillian Chappell took top honors in No. 1 singles play, Kamber Smedley took second at No. 2 singles, and Ryan Robbins and Kaylea Hopfer placed third at No. 2 doubles.

Others participating were Victoria Sarasua, Kaitlyn Walls, Trista LeGrande, Tyren Veasley, Blake Ziegelgruber, Kassidy Coffman, Hunter Moore, Erin Hartley, Jacob Ventris, Jaden Weatherford, Ryan Bramlet, and Hunter Swartzbaugh.

All are coached by Shelley Berryman and Jason Rice.

Guthrie will be back in action again Monday at the Choctaw/Nicoma Park Tournament while the junior varsity teams will compete at the Mustang JV Tournament on Tuesday. Guthrie will then host their own tournament next Thursday. If you see these young tennis players and think you want to give the sport a go then contact your local club and see if you can get a trial. All three tournaments will be played at the OKC Tennis Center starting around 8:30 a.m.
This Sunday the OKC Tennis Center will have up and coming tennis pros give free lessons to kids from ages 5-15 from 4:30-6 p.m. Tennis shoes and racquet are the only requirements.
