The Highland Park pool will remain closed for the season due to the ongoing concerns with COVID-19. Other City facilities are and will be slowly opening up as the governor’s Open Up and Recover Safely (OURS) plan allows.
City leaders were unable to determine when the pool could be open and if it were to open how much of the season would remain.
The pool season generally opens early June or late May and closes mid-August.
Phase 1 of the OURS plan, which remains on course for May 15, allows up to 10 people per field, court or stadium. If Phase 2 begins on May 15, groups will be limited to 50 people.
For those organizing sporting practices, including youth baseball and softball leagues, they can consider staggering their practice days to ensure social distancing and limiting the sharing of equipment between non-household members.
Guthrie Little League Baseball is expecting to begin practices on May 15 and start playing games in June.
Select outdoor amenities at City parks that have space for physical distancing and single-use activities that limit equipment sharing remain open using CDC sanitation and disinfecting protocols and social distancing guidelines. These are inclusive of but not limited to:
- Walking trails
- Fishing
- Bicycling
- Boating at lakes
- Open Green Space Horseshoes
- Tennis courts- single/individual use – practicing skills as an individual or playing with a member of household.
- Basketball courts- single/individual use – shooting hoops by oneself or with household members.
- Disc golf course – limited to individual up to a foursome on each hole. No tournaments
The City will continue to close off amenities that are frequently touched by multiple people including:
- Playgrounds
- Public Restrooms
- Splash Pads
- Skate Parks
- Pavilions/Shelters
- Drinking Fountains
Phase 3 of the OURS plan is scheduled to begin June 1. However, details have not been revealed by the governor’s office. City officials say depending on that specific plan, the closed off amenities could begin opening back up.

Even the local writers cannot get the headline right. “close”? or “closed”? SMH And what do you mean by “allowed”? The spineless cowards on the Council should resign immediately for declaring unConstitutional “orders” on the citizens of Guthrie.
