Important dates for GHS football players and parents

With the end of July now in sight, the defending 5A state champions will be preparing for a busy August with the start of practices, equipment check-out, pictures and scrimmages. Guthrie Sports Page is sharing these important dates for players and parents.

Guthrie FootballHead coach Kelly Beeby reminds all players and parents that physicals must be completed and paper work turned in before participation is allowed at practice. If a player does not have a physical they can still run at practices, but will not be allowed to take part in team drills.

August 8 — Equipment check-out by class begins at 8 a.m. until noon. At 6 p.m. a team meeting will be held at the Building of Champions for one final preparation for the start of practices.

August 11 – 13 — Practices will be held from 7 a.m. to noon with helmets and shorts.

August 14, 15 — Practices will begin at 2:30 p.m. The 15th will be the first day of full pads.

August 16 — Picture Day at Jelsma Stadium for team and individuals will begin at 7 a.m. Later that evening at 6 p.m. will be Meet the Jays at Jelsma.

August 18, 19 — Practices will begin at 2:30 p.m.

August 20 — School starts

August 22 — Scrimmage with Bishop Kelley and Douglass at Langston University begins at 6 p.m.

August 27 — BlueJay Card Blitz

August 28 — Scrimmage at El Reno. The start time is tentatively set for 6 p.m.
