Intergenerational Pre-K teacher Rhonda Gillett has started a book drive for “Book Buddy” time between her students and the grandmas and grandpas at Willow Creek.
“This year has already proven to have had such a wonderful and positive impact, not only on my little ones and their extended families, but the Willow Creek residents and their family members, and all the employees who work there,” Gillett said.
Gillett is making everyone aware that her class is trying to build up a library and are asking for assistance from the public.
“My selection of books is very limited and I am hopeful to build up our library with many different themes so our Book Buddy time will continue to be a fun and exciting time for all,” Gillett said.
Gillett went on to say that all books are welcome and do not have to be new books to be considered valued. Several books already in the collection are books that Cotteral Elementary was disposing of.
Gillett’s plan is to have a large enough collection that will be able to put them in themes so the focus is on a certain subject, or time of year.
All books can be dropped off at Willow Creek Nursing Home, located at 2300 West Noble Ave, and can be dropped off at the front desk or in the classroom.
Examples of some of the themes they will be working on this year are:
apples pets whales snowmen
school pet shops sharks Halloween
alphabet wild animals fish Thanksgiving
colors farm animals frogs Christmas
shapes dinosaurs Zoo Valentine’s Day
numbers bears Winter Easter
rhyming manners Summer family
Careers friends Fall Dr. Seuss
Spring
