Is your home properly marked so emergency crews can find you?

“Clearly posted house numbers can save precious time should an emergency occur,” Guthrie Fire Chief Eric Harlow said.

Can emergency personnel find you?

Harlow says response time is critical; seconds lost can mean the difference between life and death.

All homes in Guthrie and Logan County have a street address assigned to them. This address is what registers on the emergency dispatcher’s computer screen when someone dials 911.

“It is difficult for emergency vehicles, utility trucks and delivery trucks to find homes and businesses whose address numbers are not properly posted,” the Chief said.

Cell phone calls to 911 will give a location based off users cell phone signal.

According to The City of Guthrie Ordinances: 1) the owner or agent of each habitable building situated upon any lot in the city shall cause to be placed upon the building the number thereof. Each number shall be of neat design and the figures used shall not be less than two and one-half inches in height. 2) Owners of property hereafter erecting buildings shall, within ten days after the erection of the building cause to be placed there on the number of the building. (`90 Code, § 19-85)

“It is critical that emergency personnel are able to see your home or business’s address when they are trying to find you in an emergency,” Harlow concluded.
