Jaylen Harper leads the way for 5A-2 All-District selections

Guthrie Football was well represented when the 2023 Class 5A, District 2 all-district teams were announced.

Guthrie finished the season with a 10-2 record with their only losses coming to top-ranked Carl Albert and second-ranked Del City Eagles, whom both played in the 5A title game.

Jaylen Harper was named Offensive Player of the Year. He was a force in the Jays’ offense by rushing over 100 yards in all but one game.

Harper set a school record in the first-round home game against Lawton MacArthur by running for 343 yards and scoring five times. The senior finished with 32 total touchdowns with one passing and one receiving.

Eli Moroney was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year along with Carl Albert’s Easton Harless.

Treyvon Braxton was named the district’s Defensive Lineman of the Year.

The first-team offense was headlined by Hayden Calvert (QB) and Tommy White (OL).

The first-team defense was led by Dae’Lonte Glover (DL), Niko Pena (DL), Josh Varnell (LB), Rico Watson (S), Nate Benford (C), and Xavier Williams (C).

Second-team selections included Khayri Watson, Andrew Nyte, Christian Perrin, Eli Johnston, Tyler Gettings, Nik Herendeen, Noah French, and Hunter Barton.
