Jays clutter all conference baseball team’s

In perhaps one of the toughest high school baseball conference’s in the state of Oklahoma, the Guthrie BlueJays landed eight Jays on the Suburban Conference post season honors list.

Seniors John Cotton, Jaden Chappell, and Corbin Crockett headline the list on the first team. Senior’s Dustin Bowman and Zac Bobo were named to the second team. Sophomore Hayden Seifert, Luke Davis, and Landry Chappell as well as freshmen Bryan Dutton was mentioned as honorable mention.

Carl Albert’s J.T. Realmuto, who will be a member of the Oklahoma State Cowboys next spring, was named Player of the Year while Deer Creek’s Cale Coshow, who will play for the Oklahoma Sooners next year, was named the conference Pitcher of the Year. The Newcomer of the Year was Carl Albert’s Alex Polsoun, who narrowed out Dutton for the honor.

Cotton finished his BlueJay career with 37 home runs and is believed to hit more in a career then any other Guthrie player. Cotton was named as a reserve to last years team batted .426 to go with 14 round trippers.

Despite missing a good portion of the season, Crockett was named first team with his .453 batting average. Crockett was labeled as Guthrie’s No. 1 pitcher and utilized his speed in the lead off position.

Jaden Chappell, who will be a member of the Cowley County Tigers next spring, finished his career with 30 home runs and batted .449 in his senior campaign. The four-year starter played on the corners at first and third base.

Bowman made a switch from the left handers batter’s box to the right side and completed what his head coach Jon Chappell said a “great” season for the Jays.

Bobo was a consistent force on the mound for Guthrie and finished with a 7-3 pitching record.

The three sophomores Davis, Landry Chappell, and Seifert were also recently named to the sophomore Sun Belt teams and will play in the classic in June.
