Juneteenth Stroll scheduled for Guthrie; peaceful protests on display

Organizers of the first Juneteenth Stroll will be walking the streets to show support and to acknowledge racial injustices.

The June 20 event will begin at the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple starting at 9:30 a.m.

Juneteenth is the celebration of the abolishment of slavery.

“Slavery may have been abolished, but we still have some work to do,” one of the organizers said.

“We are walking down Oklahoma Ave. to show support and to acknowledge the racial injustices that are in police departments. We want to show support for police reform and racial equality.”

A prayer and a message will set the tone at the Masonic Temple for love, peace and equality.

“Let’s show them how it’s done. Come on out Guthrie. Let’s walk in peace and unity.”

More details of the event are scheduled to be released closer to the event.

Peaceful protests in Guthrie

In the last several days, peaceful protests have been held in the 1600 block of S. Division St. as part of the movement across the nation.

After the death of George Floyd, protests have taken place throughout the country.

Car horns and shouts of support could be heard as motorists drove past the busy roadway in reaction to the signs and messages.

  1. ALL LIVES MATTER

    • Your right all lives do matter however right now we shining light on the injustices of black Americans which is why we say Black Lives Matter. We never said yours or anyone else’s didn’t.

      • Gracious, you’d think that you’re the only race that has faced trouble with bad cops and really, that’s just not factual.

Secondly, if people had actually protested peacefully I would have supported that. It is a Constitutional right, but that’s not what it’s turned into now has it? It’s turned into much more

I do not condone how George Floyd was murdered. You wanted Justice. The cop was arrested. He will stand trial and life in jail.

Lastly, BLM isn’t about justice. It’s about power. You cannot have socialism or change without tyranny.

I’ll end with this: “There can be no justice without peace, and there can be no peace without justice.” — Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

We all know all lives matter. But white people arent being murdered purely for the amount of melanin in their skin like black people are. White people arent being treated like terrorists like Muslim/ Middle Eastern people are even though the majority of school shootings, domestic terrorism, and serial killing sprees since the 1970s were committed by White American men. White people are called illegal and told to go back where they came from like Hispanic people, even though no one can be illegal on stolen land.Straight people aren’t beat up, threatened told they are going to go to hell because of who they love. Right now the murder of black people at the hands of police is at the top of our list. That is why black lives matter is a movement, and saying all lives matter discredits that movement as well as other movements because rn black, muslim, hispanic, and lgbtq lives and futures do not matter as much as white straight peoples.

Sorry for the typos…here is the corrections

White people arent* being called illegals like Hispanics

        • Brittany, you should be the poster child for the public school system – the epitome of complete low IQ ignorance. You have done nothing but vomit politically correct brainwashed BS with your post. Absolutely NONE of your post is based on facts. The entirety of your post is nothing but emotional, irrational, bordering on psychosis verbal vomit.
Guthrie has a problem with low class, low IQ people who feel the need to puke their uneducated opinions on social media, local new pages, etc. Hence, the Facebook page, Guthrie Talks. 1970’s Brittany??? Do you even have ANY knowledge of REAL American History Brittany? Do you even have ANY knowledge of World History, Brittany? The answer is unequivocally, NO. You are absolutely ignorant as he**. Muslims? Hispanics? LBGTQ? BLM? Domestic terrorism? White Men? Do you even know what cause you are trying to defend? Not to mention your horrific grammar. SMH. How about you leave replies to the educated Brittany? You know…the ones who READ books, the ones who actually participated and graduated school, the ones who know World History, American History, the ones who know what they are talking about. In other words, Brittany, keep your uneducated, ignorantly biased, nonfactual, racist untruths to yourself. You have made a complete fool out of yourself with your ignorance. And BTW, Brittany…I have a Master’s Degree in Abnormal Psychology. I can detect an unhealthy personality a mile away, and you are this weeks winner.

        • Oh, Brittany, to think you actually believe what you have typed and yet, it is not factual.

    • Yes, indeed they do. So it’s sad that we keep having to be reminded that the ones who aren’t white matter too…

      • Perhaps you don’t treat others equally. I do. There’s not a person alive that had the option to choose their race…. unless your Elizabeth Warren or Rachel Dolezal. If you don’t live by the Golden Rule perhaps it’s time you did.

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Matthew 7:12

  2. “Everyone’s parents die,” would be truthful, but hurtful and cruel in the moment. So when a friend speaks up in a time of obvious pain and hurt and says “Black lives matter,” a response of “All lives matter,” is truthful. But it’s hurtful and cruel.

    • What would you say to David Dorn’s family or Dave Patrick Underwood’s family? How about Italia Marie Kelly (22)?

Yes, it’s hurtful and it’s cruel for those that have died during this and those that will die after this.

Until people recognize that all lives matter, not just one race or another, then we will be in this position of stagnation.

I wish the best for those that will be at the Guthrie march.

“Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.” “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

  3. Kimberly, stop projecting! Brittany’s points are spot-on, as anyone who follows the news and current events can see for themselves. You are correct that Guthrie has its share of uneducated and/or ignorant people who have difficulty viewing situations with an open mind, but they (and you) should try getting news from someplace besides social media and Faux News.

Actually, Brittany knows her history better than you do. Part of the problem with the history taught in schools is that much of our ugly history is omitted or glossed over if it reflects negatively on the dominant culture. Consequently, the majority of us were never taught about the Tulsa race riots in school. As if it never happened because, really, Black lives didn’t matter. Until now. Thank God. Hopefully, they will begin to get the equality they deserve. But only if we speak up and stop tolerating racism or looking the other way. Whatever happened to WWJD???

And if you are, as you claim, educated in abnormal psychology, you have surely noticed that trump meets and exceeds (always the best!) EVERY diagnostic marker on the DSM-5 for Narcissistic Personality Disorder. The only reason he hasn’t been formally diagnosed is because he refuses to be evaluated. But it doesn’t take a psychiatrist to see something that obvious. Which means that he is temperamentally incapable of fulfilling the responsibilities of the leader of a democracy. He has no empathy for anyone besides himself, and has not and will not do anything for the common good. I can’t think of one good thing he has done for me or my family, and I can think of dozens of things he has done to destroy the environment, the economy, health care, protection of the rule of law, and the Constitution while enriching himself, his (gag) family, and the wealthiest 1%. Vote Blue, no matter who!!!

You need to chill out, get some sleep, and stop being mean. The world needs more love and kindness, not hate and ugliness.

    ~ Black lives matter.~

Also, you should proofread your own writing a little better before you criticize others.

  4. All presidents have been Narcissistic. If you think any of them have done out of the goodness of their hearts, you are in faery land. I have a thought and idea, why not drop the black lives matters, white lives matter or even all lives matter and why not protest injustice and call it justice for injustice?! I believe the origin of this protesting was getting justice…
