Junior High cross country trio medals at Carl Albert meet

Head coach Bryan Dearing is excited to see nearly 20 athletes competing this year for the Guthrie Cross Country teams. Last week, the Jays finished with three medalists at the competitive Carl Albert Titan Invitational event.

In the sixth and seventh grade boys division, the Jays ran across the finish line with three runners in the top the top 14 in a field of 119 runners.

Leading the way for Guthrie was Grant Mayer. The seventh grader came across in fourth place with a time of 12:37 in the two-mile run on the Carl Albert Middle School campus.

In his second career race, sixth grader Cale Evans battled  and finished for ninth place as he out-dueled runners in the final 100 yards. He finished with a time of 13:51.

Finishing out the Jays medal count was Dawson Sallee with a 14th place finish. Sallee finished with a time of 14:04.

Waylon Ball, Clayton Hoel Andrew Ray ran within 14 seconds of each other, while Marco Guzman rounded out the Jays scoring.

Overall, the Jays finished sixth overall as a team with 126 points. Oklahoma Christian School, a private school, took top prize with only 63 points.

Seventh grader Sage Duehning paced the Lady Jays with a 12:04 time in the one-plus mile track. Only a second behind was fellow seventh grader Josie Throckmorton.

Just 22 seconds later it was Caitlyn Pollard coming across the line.

Teammate Cameron Whytal rounded out the Lady Jays scoring.

For the eighth grade, Lady Jays Alaina Barlow finished with a time of 14:41. Teammate Myli Vietor ran a 16:32.

The programs will next be in action on Tuesday when they compete in the Putnam City North meet on Tuesday afternoon.
