National Geographic’s “Mudcats” is currently in their second season as five teams search Oklahoma waters for 50-plus pound flathead catfish with their bare hands. They’re all out to prove they’re the best “mudcatter” in Oklahoma.

The series also delves into the history behind the hand-fishing tradition, which has been passed down from father to son since the 1800s.

The competition is 10 rounds and all 10 weigh-ins are being filmed at the Rock A Way Tavern located at Sooner and Seward road. The event is family friendly with food, music and fun for everyone.

The winner of each round wins $2,000.00.

The episodes begin filming at 4 p.m. every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday in July, including one Sunday (29th). The first two shows were taped Tuesday and Thursday.

With two catches under their belts, Katt Daddy and his partner Dennis Williams push their total weight count to 105.5 pounds after a second round win with a 54.80 pound catfish.

Katt Daddy appears to be the fan favorite in and out of the water.

Lance Evans (3) was spotted by Katt Daddy in the crowd and gave him a “Katt Daddy in Training” t-shirt.

To say he is larger than life is an understatement; for one thing, he has the nickname “Katt Daddy” tattooed in 9-inch letters across this back. “When I walk away, I want people to remember my name,” he explained in his bio on the Mudcats website.

Katt Daddy, who is from Canadian, Oklahoma in Pittsburg County, can be seen taking numerous pictures with fans from all around. Perhaps, his biggest fans are the young and up and coming mudcatter’s. Katt Daddy has passed out several t-shirts with the saying, “Katt  Daddy in Training” with a catfish appearing to be swallowing up a little mudcatter on the front of the shirt.

In the first weigh-in, Marion Kincaid and Mark Shull brought in a 62.65 monster of a flathead catfish for an easy 12 pound difference win. However, the duo is currently in second place, but have plenty of time with eight more weigh-ins.

Last year’s winners, Scooter Bivins and Nate Williams find themselves tied for third overall.

While I enjoy watching Mudcats I may have to stop watching the show. I understand that the situations in the show sometimes bring on a lot of excitement and some mild curse words do not upset me . While watching the show from 2/28 I was very unhappy to hear the words [GD] used several times while you bleeped out much less offensive ones. I think this is a show that children really like but if that kind of language continues I’m afraid you are going to lose a lot of viewers INCLUDING ME ! PLEASE CLEAN IT UP A LITTLE !!!
