Hello, Guthrie!  I hope you are having a wonderful July!  What wonderful events we have here!  Anyone who thinks that living in Guthrie is boring, hasn’t been paying attention!

Chamber President Mary Coffin

The Okie Noodling Festival has been going on for a week now, and is drawing a lot of attention!  A Legendary Venue, Bands, Food, Noodlers, Giant Huge Fishes!!!  What more could anyone want?  Well, maybe some big-time television folks filming the whole thing for season 2 of Mudcats on the History Channel would be something more!!  All of that can be found at the weigh-ins at The Rock-A-Way Tavern all month!  Check our web calendar for details on days and times!

You can also find music in many places around town! The Halftime Grill has live music every weekend for a rollickin’ good time. Vintage ’89 has Singer/Songwriter night on Wednesdays, Karoke on Fridays, and Live Music on Saturdays; the 21st – Becca Brock will perform with her fantastic repertoire. Wednesdays are Movie Night, Open Mic Night on Fridays, and live music on Saturdays at Kenney’s Irish Pub; New Realization will pump out some Ska they’re starting at 8 p.m. on the 21st.  And to top it off, Byron Berline will be having a concert at his Double Stop Music Hall on the 21st!  They will start warming up around 7:30, and you never know who might drop in for a set!

If it is a more artistic endeavor you are looking for, look no further! From glass blowing classes at G Glass Gallery to painting with Tiffany at her Gallery Grazioso Tipsy Artist event on the 21st, there is something for you!

For fun with the younger set, try dropping in at The Simple Life Center at 320 South Division for some old-fashioned family fun!  And don’t forget the Children’s Festival is coming up on the 27th and 28th!  The festival is intended to be enjoyed by all of Guthrie’s children, so don’t miss out! The fun starts at 5:00 this year to avoid the heat!  If your business or group would like to contribute to the event, please contact us at 282-1947.  Remember, the entire event is free – a gift to the children of our community by its devoted citizens!

For those of you who are health minded we have many avenues for you to pursue!  Guthrie YMCA provides programs and opportunities year round!  Right now, the most popular is probably the swimming pool!  Anytime Fitness is getting ready to install some really cool new equipment – there will be a big screen TV with access to over 70 classes for all fitness levels at your disposal at any time of the day or night!!

And speaking of FITNESS!!!  The First Capital Triathlon will take place on Saturday, the 21st at Guthrie Lake!  We are excited about having all of these great athletes in Guthrie.  We are expecting over 200 to participate!! Volunteers are still needed, contact Ryan at the YMCA to get involved!  282-8206.
