Knight, McDonald selected as GPS employees of the month

Guthrie Public Schools recognized their September Support and Certified Employees of the Month.

The Support Employee of the Month is Heather McDonald (pictured above) a special education paraprofessional at GUES. She was nominated by Laura Benham, who has taught for 24 years for GPS.

“She goes above and beyond everyday and puts her heart into her job,” Benham said of McDonald.

McDonald has often come to a student who has a medical issue and requires emergency medication.

“Heather quickly jumps into action and has come to his aid,” Benham said. “Her actions very well may have saved this student’s life.”

The Certified Employee of the Month was Bethany Knight, a counselor at Guthrie Junior High School. She was nominated by Emily Carpenter, who teaches 5th grade reading and math intervention Guthrie Upper Elementary School.

“Bethany is a GPS team player that deserves the recognition,” Carpenter said about Knight who assisted GUES with her knowledge in creating mass student schedules using a program software.

“She helped through many days of planning and exhibited an enormous amount of patience.”

The Guthrie Lions Club presented a plaque to the recipients and Sonic at I-35 and Highway 33 donated a $25 Sonic gift card.
