The Guthrie Public Library is proud to present Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma! Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma! is a book discussion series made possible by a generous grant provided by the Oklahoma Humanities Council, National Endowment for the Humanities, Kirkpatrick Foundation, and Inasmuch Foundation.
Our current series, Writing Worlds, began in August and we will meet for the final book discussion on Monday, December 16, from 6 – 8 pm, focusing on An American Childhood by Annie Dillard. Even if you haven’t read the book, all are welcome to join the discussion. Our esteemed local scholar will deliver a presentation that will edify you and entice you to read the book.
Our theme for Spring 2014, beginning in January, will be The Gilded Age and features a series of five books showcasing the literary response to the social change that took place during the complex era between the Civil War and World War I. Discussions will be held on Monday evenings from 6 – 8 pm: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain on 27 January; The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane on 24 February; The Awakening by Kate Chopin on 24 March; The Souls of Black Folk by W.E.B. DuBois on 28 April; and The Call of the Wild by Jack London on 19 May.
