Lion Frank Davis presented the award and remarked, “The Melvin Jones Fellowship Award is the highest award presented by the National Lions Foundation and is named after the national founder, Mr. Jones. This award reflects the great contributions that Lion Bill Wagoner gave to this community and to our Lions Club here in Guthrie. Our only regret is that we were not able to present this recognition while Bill was still living.”

Family members were in attendance and reflected on fond memories of Bill.

His daughter, Mary Longstreth, remarked, “He saw the good in everybody and never had a bad word to say about anybody. He was a man of great character and caring. He was very active in Lionism and had a special place in his heart for the Perkins Boys Ranch, a unique Lion’s project.”

Stefan Duncan, his grandson, mentioned attending a number of Lion functions with his grandfather and when asked to recall a special memory he said, “Every day was a special memory with my grandfather”!

Lion Frank Davis added “Bill was dedicated to the Lion slogan, “We Serve”, and helped out where ever and whenever he could.  At times it seemed like he was everywhere. He made a difference in the lives of many!”
