Logan and Payne counties will be electing a new district attorney come late 2014. Tom Lee has announced he will not seek re-election and has plans of retirement.

Tom LeeLee was appointed, by Gov. Mary Fallin, to the position in 2011 as the successor to District Attorney Rob Hudson, who resigned to join the attorney general’s office as first assistant. Hudson now is a special judge in Logan County.

The former Stillwater Police Officer and Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper says he will serve his term that is set to expire in January 2015.

Lee says he has been pleased with the progress since taking office.

“In the past three years we estimate that we saved Oklahoma’s citizens over $2.7 million in prison costs with placing eligible drug offenders in drug court rather than prison,” Lee told the Stillwater News Press. “Our drug court program has an 80 percent success rate.”
