Every year, National Nurses Week, May 6-12, focuses attention on the diverse ways America’s 3.1 million registered nurses work to save lives and to improve the health of millions of individuals. There are approximately 42,743 RNs and 18,806 LPNs working in the field of nursing to improve health care in Oklahoma. The celebration begins May 6 on RN Recognition Day and ends May 12, on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.
The Logan County Health Department is joining the American Nurses Association and the Oklahoma State Department of Health in recognizing those who work in nursing. “We would like for the public to join us as we pay tribute to our public health nurses for the valuable services they provide to the residents of Logan County,” said Jay Smith, administrative director for the Logan County Health Department.
“Some of the services that local public health nurses provide are child and adult immunizations, preventive health screenings, monitoring and control of communicable diseases and chronic health concerns, services that assure healthier mothers and babies, child abuse prevention, emergency preparedness and school health education,” said Smith.
